Ears that appear to protrude and stick out, are asymmetrical or misshapen, or are obviously oversized can affect your self-esteem, especially as a child. An otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that can help in correcting the shape, size, and position of the ears and produce a natural appearance. With this life-altering surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons in Colorado Springs, CO have helped many men, women, and children to move past the anxiety of exposing their ears. No matter what the physical irregularity, an otoplasty at the Institute of Plastic Surgery allows one to show their face from any angle with confidence and a renewed sense of self-esteem. Contact our office for a consultation today.
Otoplasty can be performed on patients of all ages; however, it is common among children and is recommended prior to reaching elementary school. By six years of age, this surgery is safe and effective to be completed on a child. If you feel embarrassed by the look and shape of your ears because of a visible deformity, otoplasty may help attain a normal appearance. If you suffer from a torn or damaged earlobe, you may also be a candidate for cosmetic ear surgery.
"35 years ago, I had breast implant surgery. Over the course of those years, my breasts had encapsulated causing my breasts to look totally abnormal and very hard to the touch. Fast forward, I needed them removed. Dr Jain was recommended and I couldn't be more pleased. He replaced my implants (both of which had ruptured, but I didn't know it) with the type of implant that much reduces the possibility of encapsulation and no chance of old-school rupture. The results are simply stunning. Soft, normal shaped and just the right size. The surgery was a bit complicated, but Dr. Jain's expertise was key in getting the results I wanted. Dr. Jain is gifted, and very attuned to the needs of the patient. He gave me a realistic description of what to expect and he delivered. His staff is wonderful--very attentive and supportive. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommend."- P.D. / Google / Nov 20, 2018
"I highly recommend Institute of Plastic Surgery. Very professional and caring Dr’s and staff. The office Manager Lucy is awesome! I had laser done on dark spots on my face. I never had anything like that done before. Everything was explained thorough and it went very well with great results. Thank you for everything and I wouldn’t go anywhere else!"- B.T. / Facebook / Apr 24, 2019
"Dr. Dash is absolutely amazing!! I felt so comfortable with her instantly and she took so much time to explain everything to me in such detail in a way that was so easy to understand about the beast augmentation I wanted! She was amazing at settling my nerves right before I went into the OR! I would recommend her to anyone! So knowledgeable and doesn’t sugar coat any risks associated... I couldn’t have been any happier with my experience with her and all the staff there! They have all been so nice and make you feel so welcome from the first visit."- D.V. / Facebook / Apr 17, 2019
"Dr. Dash is amazing! She is super smart and funny and did a great job on my breast reduction. Everything was explained well and pain was managed great. I looked at several surgeons and liked that she doesn't use drains (and apparently I didn't need them because everything went fine without). My neck and shoulder pain are virtually gone! I can do cardio without getting a black eye ;-) Thanks Dr. Dash!"- B.V. / Google / Mar 21, 2019
"As a TG female it can be difficult to find someone who you trust, who is respectful, and who can really understand the importance of how you look. My mother and I interviewed surgeons from Boulder to Colorado Springs, and we both knew from the moment we met Dr. Dash that she was the only one we wanted to work with. The support staff was professional, courteous, and always greeted us with smiles. I really impressed that they were always on time, including the day of surgery, which was not the case with many of the other surgeons I interviewed. What’s most important though is the results, and I can’t put it in words how happy I am! My breasts not only look natural, but Dr. Dash was able to give me the size and shape I always wanted. I healed quickly, with minimal scaring that you can barely see 6 weeks after, and LOVE my body as a result. This has been one of the best choices of my life, and I am so glad I chose Dr. Dash! Thank you Dr. Dash!"- C.D. / Google / Feb 26, 2019

Otoplasty is performed using general anesthesia or IV sedation. In many patients, the incision is placed behind the ear or within the inner ear. During this procedure, cartilage will be reshaped to create a smaller or larger appearance. It is common for each ear to be addressed during otoplasty to make sure they appear even. After this, the incisions are secured with sutures and are carefully bandaged so they stay protected.
What to Expect
When surgery is over and you are released to leave the hospital, you will recover at home. Your surgeon or a member of their team will provide healing protocol. It's very important for your child or you not to touch, pick at, or scratch the ears. In addition, your child or you should not lie down on the ears, rather sleeping upright for a few days. Our surgeons typically like to see their otoplasty patients back within a week — at this time, they will be able to remove the wrappings and look at you or your child's surgical results. The outcomes can be seen right away, and the progression of the results will continue to look better as the ears heal.
Reshape Your Ears
Even though the ears are not very big, the wrong shape, position, or size may make a big difference to your child or you. Ear surgery may help your child avoid getting teased by classmates or you if you've always felt self-conscious about your ears.
