Ears that appear to protrude and stick out, are asymmetrical or misshapen, or are obviously oversized can affect your self-esteem, especially as a child. An otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that can help in correcting the shape, size, and position of the ears and produce a natural appearance. With this life-altering surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons in Colorado Springs, CO have helped many men, women, and children to move past the anxiety of exposing their ears. No matter what the physical irregularity, an otoplasty at the Institute of Plastic Surgery allows one to show their face from any angle with confidence and a renewed sense of self-esteem. Contact our office for a consultation today.
Otoplasty can be performed on patients of all ages; however, it is common among children and is recommended prior to reaching elementary school. By six years of age, this surgery is safe and effective to be completed on a child. If you feel embarrassed by the look and shape of your ears because of a visible deformity, otoplasty may help attain a normal appearance. If you suffer from a torn or damaged earlobe, you may also be a candidate for cosmetic ear surgery.
"35 years ago, I had breast implant surgery. Over the course of those years, my breasts had encapsulated causing my breasts to look totally abnormal and very hard to the touch. Fast forward, I needed them removed. Dr Jain was recommended and I couldn't be more pleased. He replaced my implants (both of which had ruptured, but I didn't know it) with the type of implant that much reduces the possibility of encapsulation and no chance of old-school rupture. The results are simply stunning. Soft, normal shaped and just the right size. The surgery was a bit complicated, but Dr. Jain's expertise was key in getting the results I wanted. Dr. Jain is gifted, and very attuned to the needs of the patient. He gave me a realistic description of what to expect and he delivered. His staff is wonderful--very attentive and supportive. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommend."- P.D. / Google / Nov 20, 2018

I have had other doctors who promised what they would do and how I would look and it did not turn out that way. I am so happy with the procedure Dr. Jain did for me. He was very kind and honest with me. If you need a procedure done I recommend Dr. Jain. You will not be disappointed!"- W. / RealSelf / Dec 20, 2019

Otoplasty is performed using general anesthesia or IV sedation. In many patients, the incision is placed behind the ear or within the inner ear. During this procedure, cartilage will be reshaped to create a smaller or larger appearance. It is common for each ear to be addressed during otoplasty to make sure they appear even. After this, the incisions are secured with sutures and are carefully bandaged so they stay protected.
What to Expect
When surgery is over and you are released to leave the hospital, you will recover at home. Your surgeon or a member of their team will provide healing protocol. It's very important for your child or you not to touch, pick at, or scratch the ears. In addition, your child or you should not lie down on the ears, rather sleeping upright for a few days. Our surgeons typically like to see their otoplasty patients back within a week — at this time, they will be able to remove the wrappings and look at you or your child's surgical results. The outcomes can be seen right away, and the progression of the results will continue to look better as the ears heal.
Reshape Your Ears
Even though the ears are not very big, the wrong shape, position, or size may make a big difference to your child or you. Ear surgery may help your child avoid getting teased by classmates or you if you've always felt self-conscious about your ears.
