About Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic treatment that is performed to enhance the look and shape of the nose. Furthermore, it may help to improve breathing function in many patients. Our board-certified plastic surgeons are experienced in cosmetic facial surgeries, taking a conservative approach and creating the most natural results. Even though rhinoplasty consists of delicate changes, the final outcome can be beautiful and dramatic. This surgery at the Institute of Plastic Surgery can be performed to make a nose appear smaller in size or improve a nose that is misshapen, protrudes out, is too large or wide, and/or has a bump on top of the bridge. The objective is to create a more aesthetically appealing nose that meets your cosmetic desires and functions properly. One of our surgeons, Dr. Rupesh Jain, is also highly experienced in offering injectable fillers for the nose and can help administer what is referred to as a liquid rhinoplasty if you are seeking a nonsurgical option. You can schedule a consultation at our Colorado Springs, CO office to discuss your treatment plan and needs.

Ideal Candidates

Both men and women are candidates for cosmetic nose surgery. If you are unhappy with the size and shape of your nose and have areas you would like to correct and enhance, this treatment may be the recommended solution. It's very important that expectations are discussed as your facial appearance will be altered. Furthermore, facial growth should also be complete. This will also be assessed during your consultation, even more so for teens.

Surgical Technique

Rhinoplasty is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia and is usually an outpatient surgery. There are various surgical methods depending on the unique cosmetic goals of the patient. Our surgeons perform rhinoplasty using either an open or closed technique. The objective during treatment is to reduce or remove excess cartilage, tissue, and bone if there is an abundance present, or to build and increase cartilage for the new shape if this is lacking. The nasal features are repositioned and the skin is re-draped over the newly improved framework. Stitches are used either on the inside portion of the nose or along the natural external fold.

What to Expect

Following rhinoplasty, you will be carefully monitored in the recovery section, and then our nurses will release you to recover at home. The nose will be bruised and swollen for a few days. In almost all patients, there is bruising and discoloration beneath the eyes in addition to the nose. Ice packs and pain medication can assist with these effects. Your follow-up appointment with your surgeon will occur within 48 – 72 hours after surgery to check the healing progress. It generally takes around 2 – 4 weeks to recover from nose surgery. When in the recovery phase, strenuous activity should be avoided.
