Long-Term Positive Effects of Plastic Surgery
In recent years, plastic surgery has become increasingly popular. Some of this is secondary to societies acceptance of plastic surgery in helping people feel better about them self. There is scientific evidence to show that there is a psychological benefit and improvement of ones' self-esteem with plastic surgery.
A recent investigation by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Margraf, Alexander von Humboldt Professor for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the RUB, studies the psychological impact that plastic surgery had on 550 patients. They found that patients undergoing plastic surgery had greater self-esteem and more enjoyment and satisfaction with life. Plastic surgery patients expressed more satisfaction and attractiveness of the body part that had the procedure. After surgery, they also exhibited great self-esteem and less overall anxiety.
