Candidates for Rhinoplasty
Many will argue that the nose is the face’s most important feature. Perhaps no other facial feature has a greater impact on how a person looks than the size and shape of the nose. Symmetric, well-proportioned noses may not always get noticed but when something is “off” or just not right in regards to the nose, it’s hard to ignore. Routinely, studies and polls show the nose is the most defining characteristic of the face and any slight alteration can greatly improve or hurt one's appearance.
Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure that involves the reconstruction and shaping of the bone and cartilage of the nose in order to enhance appearances and/or improve breathing through the nose. A lot of people come to our plastic surgery office in Colorado Springs wondering if rhinoplasty is an option for them. People are interested in rhinoplasty surgery for or a variety of reasons. The majority are not satisfied with the appearance of the nose they were born with, whether it be that there is a hump they’d like removed or perhaps a tip they wish was more refined. Many elect to have a rhinoplasty to alter the size or shape of the nose to make it balanced with their features, or just to improve their appearance. Some have trouble breathing through the nose. Others have suffered past injuries that has left them with a misshapen nose and would like to restore better symmetry and correct the damage. The main goal of a rhinoplasty is to improve the appearance of the nose aesthetically by creating harmony with the other features on the face. It very common for young people to come to our Colorado Springs office interested in rhinoplasty. Before proceeding with any kind of rhinoplasty, a young client must first reach full growth, which is usually around age fifteen or sixteen. An exception to this rule would be a case in which breathing is severely impaired, which of course can be corrected as soon as possible. Before deciding on a rhinoplasty, we always discuss the possibility of any additional surgery that might enhance the overall appearance of the face.
Many of our Colorado Springs rhinoplasty clients who come in for rhinoplasty surgery also have chin augmentation done in conjunction with rhinoplasty to create a better balance of features.
