Breast Lift (Mastopexy) - Colorado Springs Institute of Plastic Surgery
Video Transcript
A mastopexy or breast lift is a surgery that is done to remove excess skin, raise and tighten the breast, and create a new breast contour. Patients that come in for mastopexy, generally have some droop to the breast, the majority of the breast tissue is hanging below the fold of the breast, or the nipple is pointing down towards the ground. Some people have a very large areola that they want to make smaller, and that too is correct with the breast lift.
The lift is performed through incisions around the areola, a vertical incision straight down the breast, and a horizontal incision in the inframammary fold. After a mastopexy, the recovery is not as painful as most patients think. Because there's no work done with the muscle this is essentially a skin operation. Most patients return to work within a week, and most patients are off narcotics by the end of a week.
I think the most important thing for a mastopexy patient to consider is the fact that we do need to use additional incisions to do this procedure. That is something that they will have to be okay with. They usually heal very nicely, and over the course of one to two years they end up as fine lines, but there are more incisions than visible places for this procedure.
If a patient is interested in mastopexy, they should contact our office at The Institute of Plastic Surgery, and get a free consultation with myself or with Dr. Jain.
